Spots worth posting on Instagram

Kaw Point Urban Hike

Why it’s Instagram-worthy: One of the best spots to see the KC skyline is Kaw Point. Here, the Big Muddy and the Kaw collide and become one. At sunrise or sunset, the sun’s rays light up the clouds and make the KC skyline glow.

Photo Tip: Try capturing the morning sun at sunrise, the glowing skyline at sunset, or the tranquil meeting of the rivers. Along with the natural beauty at this spot, there is a striking piece of public art, a large metal sculpture of Lewis & Clark that has become a favorite for urban hikers to post.

River Market Urban Hike, KCMO

Why it’s Instagram-worthy: This bustling River Market area is lively and full of local vendors, fresh produce, and a dynamic mix of people and activities.

Photo Tip: Capture the vibrant atmosphere on a busy market day or the serene riverside views. Our most photographed spot on this hike is the beautiful “Lewis & Clark Expedition 1804” mural painted by Jose Faus, Jesus Ortiz, and Alisha Gambino. It is located at 115 W. 5th St.

Spicy Mayan Mocha, Café Corazon Crossroads

Coffee Urban Hike, KCMO

Why it’s Instagram-worthy: Every coffee shop has its own personality, which makes for cozy, inviting pictures. You also get to travel on the KC Streetcar and view the hustle and bustle of downtown Kansas City.

Photo Tip: Capture the details of your coffee, the baristas in action, and the charming interiors for your next #coffeegram post. Or use video footage from the urban hike highlighting the downtown Kansas City area for your next reel.

Strawberry Hill Urban Hike, KCK

Voler Thieves of Flight Headquarters, formerly Holy Trinity Orthodox Church

Why it’s Instagram-worthy: If you like photos of unique architecture, you’ll love this urban hike through Strawberry Hill and Russian Hill in Kansas City. This hike is a visual feast and each street tells a story of the many ethnic groups that formed this area.

Photo Tip: Take photos of the stunning architecture and vibrant streetscapes to capture the essence of the neighborhood. Hikers also love posing in front of the murals, which make for great backdrops. Feature the vibrant colors and intricate designs in your photos.

Sunsets in Kansas City

Couple enjoying the sunset on the pedestrian bridge in the Crossroads

Why it’s Instagram-worthy: Our Sunset Urban Hike provides the perfect opportunity to take photos during golden hour. In the Westside, we stop at a hidden bridge over 670 to watch the sun drop into the horizon. The sunset creates beautiful hues of pink and orange across the sky, creating stunning images!

Photo Tip: Create a time-lapse video and share via a reel or story to really capture the setting sun. You’ll want to include footage throughout the hike from the Westside to the Crossroads so you capture the scenery before and after the sun hides behind the horizon. Be sure to include the #urbanhikeskc hashtag to your post!

Murals in Kansas City, MO

Why it’s Instagram-worthy: We’re fortunate to live in a city filled with vibrant murals created by talented artists. Check out the map at Spray See MO to explore the murals on your own or join us for a mural hike. The mural pictured is a popular one with our hikers and was created by artist @phybr. It is situated behind the Concentra building at 200 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108.

Photo Tip: When you’re taking pictures of our local artwork and murals, be sure to tag the artists and give them credit. They often will like or share it as well!

Trains and Bridges in Kansas City

Town of Kansas Bridge

Why it’s Instagram-worthy: Nearly every hike we take in Kansas City features Instagram-worthy bridges. While hiking in an urban setting, you’ll find many good bridge shots to choose from, including the Woodswether Bridge, the Town of KS Bridge, and the ASB Bridge.

Photo Tip: The bridges look even more stunning if you are able to capture a photo once everyone is off of the bridge. It allows you to capture the architecture and the skyline in one shot!
